Patrons of the Congregation

Patronowie Zgromadzenia

The main Patroness of the Congregation – according to Father Founder – is Our Lady of Loretto, Servant of the Word. She is for every Loretto sister a model of union with Christ and sacrificial service to people. By worshipping the Mother of the Incarnate Word, sisters proclaim Her glory and imitate Her meekness, humility and constant readiness to do God’s will.

The secondary patron saint of the congregation is Saint Joseph, the Saviour’s protector. His example of inner life, fortitude, fidelity and deep humility leads the sisters to holiness and service in the Church.

Saint Benedict of Nursia called a monastic life “a school for the service of the Lord”. He had an attitude of respect for every human. He harmoniously combined life of prayer and work and was not discouraged to start anew when difficulties destroyed the work he has begun. With both his life and his call “that in all things God may be glorified”, he guides Loretto sisters on their journey.

Saint Scholastica is considered the spiritual mother of families of all Benedictines. She believed that in family should be strong and solid bonds which give man a sense of security and a base of love. Saint Scholastica teaches to constantly lean on God who knows perfectly well what man needs.

Each Loretto sister honours her patron saints in a special way on the following days: Our Lady of Loretto – 10 December; St Joseph – 19 March; St Benedict – 21 March and 11 July; St Scholastica – 10 February.
